About the Lexus ES

The ES has always been an important part of the Lexus brand, which is why it was one of the first two models to debut when Lexus was launched in 1989. Eight generations later, the ES has evolved into an all-electric vehicle, but the things that made it such an important car in the first place are all still there, and better than ever. The electric drivetrain provides smooth and quiet propulsion to go with the always-comfortable ride and interior. Advanced technology is found throughout, from the drivetrain to the climate control and the audiophile-grade stereo system. The ES also offers an exceptional level of safety technology, far more than what you expect in this price range. Just one of the many ways the ES exceeds expectations.

What the Critics Say

"This ES marks a new chapter for Lexus, as the car showcases new design approaches, technology features, and assisted driving capabilities." -- MotorTrend

"With an enduring reputation for its quiet and comfort-oriented personality, silent electric propulsion might well enhance those traits, making the ES even more tranquil—something its buyers will no doubt appreciate" -- Car & Driver

What’s New For 2026

The ES got a complete redesign for 2026, including a whole new type of drivetrain. The Hybrid drivetrain is still offered, but the standard ES is now an all-electric vehicle. Not only that, but it’s an incredibly advanced electric vehicle, offering cutting edge performance, charging, and safety.

Lexus ES Features

Lexus ES

Effortless Performance

The Lexus ES sports stylish and tastefully futuristic styling, and Lexus has been sure to give it a drivetrain that fits with that look. The standard configuration is front-wheel drive, producing 221 horsepower from a single motor. Opt for all-wheel drive, and you get a second motor that boosts output to 338 horsepower. That’s both more standard power and more available power than was offered with the ES from the former gasoline engines. Range is good too, with the AWD configuration offering 276 miles and the FWD configuration reaching 307 miles. But the really remarkable thing is how efficient the ES is. Lexus is able to offer competitive power and range without needing a huge battery, which reduces weight as well as charging times. That means the ES can charge from 0 to 100 percent on an AC 240V home charger in just 7 hours, significantly quicker than competing EVs that offer the same range. DC fast charging is quicker than average as well, going from 10 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes.

Lexus ES Interior

Contemporary Luxury

Lexus has always excelled at clean interior design with high-quality materials and easy-to-use controls. The ES is an evolution of that design ethos, incorporating materials like layered bamboo trim and leather seat upholstery. There is also a long list of luxury features like standard heated and ventilated front seats, and the back seats not only have available heating, but also ventilation, still quite a rare feature for back seats, especially in this price range. The ES has always been known for its comfortable ride and serene interior, and the combination of the electric drivetrain and standard active noise control has elevated these qualities to new heights. If you prefer music to quiet, the ES has you covered there, too, with an available 17-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson® PurePlay Surround Sound system that enhances any listening experience.

Lexus ES Charging

Advanced Technology

Lexus developed a highly advanced electric drivetrain for the ES, but that is only the start of the advanced technology found in the ES. The ES is also exceptional in the area of safety technology, with the Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 suite of advanced safety features coming standard. This includes features like Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Proactive Driving Assist, and more. Using all of this technology is easy as well, thanks to the next-generation Lexus Interface, which comes with Cloud Navigation, Intelligent Assistant, and Destination Assist, as well as a 14-inch touchscreen with crisp visuals and quick response times. You can also choose what sort of driving experience you want, with Normal, Eco, Sport, Range, and Custom driving modes.
