About The Lexus GX
With a complete redesign for 2024, the most offroad-ready Lexus is better than ever. The GX is built from the ground up to be a tough offroader, with a body-on-frame construction. But don’t think that you get any less of the luxury you’re accustomed to with Lexus, as the spacious and modern interior is a serene and comfortable place to be whether you’re on or off the road.
Here you’ll find a choice of two or three rows of seats, a seriously impressive stereo system, and the user-friendly Lexus Interface infotainment software running on a large 14-inch touchscreen. Under the hood, you’ll find a potent twin-turbo V6, which is more than powerful enough to get you wherever you’re going. You can take a lot with you too, since the GX has a much higher towing capacity than its competitors.
What the Critics Say
“For those of us who understand the spiritual essence and romance of a classic sport utility vehicle, but also appreciate some aspects of modern automotive technology, the new GX is simply the ultimate adventure machine.” — The Drive
“To these eyes, it’s one of the best-looking SUVs of all time. Clean, modern, classic. If it manages to survive the same 14 years as the last GX, it’ll still look great in 2038.” — Autoblog
What’s New For 2024
The GX got a total redesign for 2024, all the way down to a new platform underpinning the entire vehicle. The new engine is a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces quite a bit more power than the outgoing V8, especially torque. The interior has been given a much more modern look, including a bunch of new tech. Exterior styling has also been completely changed, giving it a much more utilitarian look, but one that still conveys the GX’s luxury vehicle status.
Lexus GX Features
Unmatched Capability
The GX shares its mechanical underpinnings with the Toyota 4Runner and Tundra, both highly capable utilitarian offroaders. This body-on-frame construction makes the GX tough, and that’s what sets it apart from most of its competitors. Adding to the offroad capability is a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, enough to handle rocks and mud with ease. It’s also enough to give the GX a seriously unbeatable towing capacity of 9,096 pounds.
The standard full-time 4WD with a lockable Torsen® limited-slip center differential sends power where it’s needed, and the available Adaptive Variable Suspension keeps the whole thing composed and comfortable. Most of what makes the GX such an impressive offroader comes standard, but opting for the Overtrail or Overtrail+ trims gives you even more specialized equipment. That includes things like 33-in all-terrain tires, a Panoramic View Monitor with Multi-Terrain Monitor, and Crawl Control. And to make room for the cargo you’re taking with you, these trims also include a third-row seating delete.
Luxury Experience
There are plenty of utilitarian vehicles for going offroad, but the GX is the vehicle that allows you to do so in luxury. The spacious interior allows for multiple seating configurations, allowing for seating for 5,6, or 7, depending on trims and options. Heated front seats are standard, with a heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats on the options list. There is also an available fast-response interior heater, which comes standard on Overtrail trims, to warm you up quickly when your adventure turns cold.
There is a standard moonroof, and an available Dynamic Sky™ panoramic glass roof to let in even more natural light. And at night, there’s standard ambient illumination, with thematic ambient illumination coming standard on most trims. For infotainment, you have a 14-inch touchscreen running user-friendly Lexus Interface software, which is also compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Music plays through a standard 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound System, which sounds great, but those who want the ultimate audio experience can select the available Mark Levinson® 21-speaker, 1,800-watt Premium Surround Sound system.
Bold Design
It’s difficult to steal focus from the luxury and offroad prowess of the GX, but the superb styling somehow manages. The modern styling of the GX looks offroad-ready and sophisticated at the same time. The large wheel arches that accommodate the bigger all-terrain tires on the Overtrail trims can also fit the 22-inch wheels that come with the Luxury+ trim and inside, the NuLuxe® upholstery is soft to touch and comfortable, but is also easy to clean. Triple-Beam LED headlamps come standard, and LED foglights come with most trims. These both look great and are indispensable once you get offroad and away from streetlights. As an extra styling flourish, bi-tone paint is available for Overtail trims.
